The great thing about having your own website is that you can say pretty much whatever you want. This is the resume I've always wanted to write. In my careerboth as a manager and as a job seekerI have read hundreds, if not thousands of resumes and bios. Most of them sound alike. They are so rife with euphemisms and "keywords" that it's impossible to tell what the person is good at, if anything. As a friend of mine who used to be an executive recruiter once told me when I was looking for a new job, "Rich, just remember that everybody lies. The headhunter lies, the candidate lies and the employer lies." This resume is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truthalmost.

AREAS OF COMPETENCE
The Ability to Communicate Effectively. As a writer Richard
can craft a letter, memo or e-mail that makes its point clearly and doesn't
offend anyone by its tone. He can write articles that engage the reader, proposals
that sell, and manuals that use correct grammar and syntax. As a speaker he
can address any size audience, without script or notes, and be both informative
and entertaining. His stage presence is relaxed and polished. He is a good spokesperson
and comes across well on camera.
The Ability to Manage Responsibly. As a manager of people
Richard can build a strong team through careful planning, organization and delegation.
He's not afraid to get out of the way and let people do their jobs. He holds
people accountable for their areas of responsibility and makes sure they are
recognized for their accomplishments. As a manager of projects Richard worries
about the details. He get things done on time and stays within budget. He knows
quality instinctively and cares little for TQM processes.
The Ability to Sell Products, Services and Ideas. Richard
has been an award-winning salesperson. As a former instructor of the Dale
Carnegie Sales Course he knows the sales/buying process intimately. He can
smoke out a prospect's hidden objections and discover his or her dominant buying
motive. He uses facts, benefits and evidence to build a strong case. He can
lead group sales presentations. With written sales proposals (or advertising),
he knows how to create an issue"what might happen if you don't use
us?so often overlooked when selling to large accounts.
The Ability to Get along Well with Others. To Richard,
this means more than just being a team player. It means practicing good human
relationsall the time. He tries always to see things from the other person's
point of view. Most people consider him friendly, outgoing, cooperative, and
helpful. His advice is often sought by his peers. He has a great sense of humor.
Richard is very loyal to his friends and colleagues, but is independent in his
thinking. If he disagrees with you he will tell youdiplomatically, of
course.
The Ability to Think Outside the Box. Richard is considered a creative person, whatever that means. Many people think because he reads a lot he's an intellectual. He's not. He's just always comparing situations at hand with things he's read or seen and then coming up with different ways to approach them. It's not in his nature to automatically except the standard solution to any problem.
