In the summer of 1999 our goddaughter, Colette, came to stay with us in New York. Colette is from Fort Worth, TX and had just graduated from high school. I helped her land a job in the advertising department of my company's Manhattan office so that she could put away some extra money for college in the fall. Having never been parents, this was a great experience for us—although we were probably more like aunt and uncle than parents.

The first couple of weeks we did all the usual touristy things that we do whenever anyone comes to visit us. But with the whole summer to spend together we soon settled into a more "normal" routine—like doing the laundry, going to the grocery store, walking the dog and working. As always, I bored everyone with taking pictures of everything we did. But I had two copies printed of every photo in order that Colette could have her own album—which I'm sure by now she has no doubt finished putting together. Ha!

OK, Colette, this page is for you--in case any of your friends and relatives want to see your pictures of New York. All you have to do is tell them to point their browsers to this web site.

First Minute in New York.
Here she is after just getting off the plane Thursday night at LaGuardia Airport.

New York, NY. It's a wonderful town.
That first Saturday morning I took Colette to the top of the Empire State Building. My feeling is that it's always a good idea to get a general overview of the city before visiting any one site in particular. Some people like to go to the top of the World Trade Center, which is fine. It is, in fact, higher. But the WTC is too far away from midtown to get a real appreciation of the splendor of this city.

  Colette Transfixed.
She takes shopping seriously in the giftshop at the top of the Empire State Building.
  Two Girls Hanging
Out in the Harbour. Of course, no trip
to New York would be complete with seeing this!

Get a Job.
